Business & Pleasure

Category: dyeing,Friends & FunMistress Rows @ 11:41 pm

This weekend my house smelled of wet wool and dye. I steamed up the windows something fierce in my kitchen, spending my day between pots of yarn and fighting off a cold while resting in my recliner. This was the first dye session of 2012, and it felt good. Every single pot I played with did exactly what I wanted. Show season cometh, knitters and crocheters, and it waits for no one. It’s coming soon, and it brings with it a shaking off of the mental dust. Regardless of how I feel physically, I can usually count on the show season to raise my spirits. It is a happy making thing.

Star Dust sock yarn, ready for the petting.

The yarn I dyed this weekend is part of a trunk load I’m bringing when we visit Amy over the long weekend. Talk about happy making! Not only do I get to see my beloved Amy, but I get to rub her pregnant belly, whispering my you-wanna-be-a-girl-sweet nothings the whole time, AND she scheduled a trunk show at a chocolate and wine bar during our visit. This is the best way to mix business and pleasure, and will help us afford the visit. She’s pretty much reserved every seat in the place with curious shoppers who have RSVPd and I can’t wait to break open the bins of last year’s remnants and this year’s first offerings. There’s nothing that gets me excited about what I do than seeing other people excited about it in turn.

We like to get up to no good as frequently as possible.

You all already know how much I love Amy, but what you might not know is that I actually *love* Amy. Like family. I don’t say that to or about many people, but I do for her. After a year that felt like getting snacked on by stoner Dementors, I don’t even care how ugh the 6.5 hour drive will feel. I get to see Amy. I get to meet her friends, new faces and old (Tory! Corey!), and see the places she loves. There is even supposed to be a trip to a yarn store, also my first of the year. Did I mention it’s all her birthday? We won’t have much time, but we’ll make the most of it.

Purl Soho packs a lot into a very small space.

The last time I hung out with Amy (and Tory!) we got up to all kinds of wackerydoo, first in Manhattan, and then here at Tiny House. We went to Fluevog! And Purl Soho! We discovered the Satan Wing! I can only imagine what-all we’ll get up to on her home turf. I am a firm believer in mixing yarn and friends, and I know that most of you will agree. What better way to top up the fun meter?

So, may you have a wonderful long weekend, if you’re so blessed, and do something that makes you happy to be alive. As Dresden would assure you, it’s good for the soul.
